いつの間に元の日本語を学んだ理由の目標を達成してきたようです。/ It seems I finally achieved my original goal of studying Japanese
今日はビクターという友達の所で日本語で色々なゲームをやってみました。僕とビクターは昔日本語の同級生で、ビクターは今でも日本語を勉強していますから、なんとなく理解できますが、僕が来日して以来僕の方が先輩かもしれません ^^ 翻訳力ならビクターはすごいと思うけど！漢字の半分しか分かっていないのに大抵完璧にストリーの流れを通訳できて僕びっくりしました。翻訳力は僕の弱点です。日本語でも英語でも内容を分かるのに通訳は上手く行かないです…もっと練習しないと！
Today I was at Victors place and we tried to play a variety of different games in Japanese. Me and Victor used to be classmates studying Japanese together. He is still studying it so he can understand the contents somewhat, but after I went to Japan i'd seem like I'm the senpai when we play games together ^^ Victor surprised me however, because even though he only understands less than half the kanjis he can still many times interpret what they are saying almost perfectly. My weak point is translation, even though I can understand the context in both Japanese and in English, to translate on the fly without making it sound weird is rather hard. I guess I'll just have to practice more!
日本語の基礎さえあれば、勉強上から見るとJRPGゲームはとても役に立つと思います。勉強も遊びも一石二鳥だし、「遊びは仕事ではない」って思ったら努力しなくても色々も学べると思います。
As long as you have basic knowledge in the Japanese language, JRPG games are very useful from a study-perspective I think. You can kill two birds with one stone by having fun and study at the same time. Also in my opinion, that which is fun is not "work" and does therefore not require effort. Eg, by playing games in Japanese you don't need to do an effort to learn.

とにかく、帰宅する前に、「ゼノサガ」というJRPGゲームを立ち上がりました。
Anyways, before going home we booted up a JRPG game called Xenosaga.
初めてゼノサガをやった時にやがて無知の漢字の壁にぶつかって激おこぷんぷん丸で電源を切れてしまいました。何故かといったら、全て「時空のゆがみ」の様な未来的ななんだかんだで術語が多かった。しかし、一年振りに今日そのゲームに戻ってきたら、驚いたことにそこまで難しくないのを気づいていました。最初から元々の日本語を学んだ理由の目標はJRPGゲームや漫画などを理解できるようになるという目標だったので、ゼノサガ程複雑なJRPGまで理解出来ていて、嬉しくなったにも程があります。もちろん、分からない言葉もたくさんありましたが、だいたい分かってたら障害になるとは思いません
First time I played Xenosaga it was like hitting a wall made of kanjis I've never seen before, which made me rage-quit before long. It was all "space time disturbance" kind of futuristic words and other technical mumbo jumbo. However, returning to that game today after 1 year I was honestly surprised. It wasn't actually that hard to understand. Realizing that made me really happy because my goal from the very beginning with studying Japanese was to be able to play JRPG games and watching anime/reading manga in Japanese. Of course there were still a lot of words and kanjis I didn't recognize, but as long as I can understand most of what they are saying, I don't find it to be an obstacle.
ところが、まだまだ日本語を長い間勉強しないといけないと察しています。>__< 敬語を使えたいし、大阪人の振りもしたいし、老人話も分からないと困りますね！（笑）したがって、また９月下旬に来日することになりました！:D
Still, I have a feeling I will be studying Japanese for a long time yet >__< I wanna be able to speak formal Japanese, pretend I am from Osaka, understand old people, etc. And thus I am going back to Japan for another 9 months in the end of September :D
